It’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything, mostly due to lack of time, but I couldn’t help but pass this on.
The short version: This engineer developed a bionic hand for a boy with a congenital defect. Unfortunately, he hasn’t been able to track the kid down, but the development process may have a big impact on the state-of-the art: this kind of prosthesis currently costs upwards of $70-80K, but this new design could be more in the realm of $4K, with the total development cost of about $10K.
