Yamaha RMax in Wine Country

I saw a nice bit on CBS News about an agriculture professor at UC Davis, Ken Giles, experimenting with using a Yamaha RMax for target spraying grapes in Napa Valley.  The RMax is, of course, the basis for our lab’s GTMax, as well as similar platforms being used at Berkeley, Carnegie-Mellon, and NASA-Ames. For now, the platform is only being used to spray water but aims to gain clearance to spray pesticides in the future.

RMax in its natural habitat

It is exciting to see the helicopter we’ve been working with for the last 10+ years get some exposure, and that it seems like people are opening up to the idea of using unmanned aircraft for these purposes.
